Suffolk Village of the Year 2023

Cockfield Community Council News, April 2017

At last, spring is here! We’ve turned the clocks forward, the sun has been shining and we can get out and enjoy the wonderful Suffolk countryside . This is definitely the time to take a stroll down to Earls Meadow where the results of the winter’s hard work by Rod Williams and his team of volunteers are showing through. The Meadow and the section of Bruff’s Line next to it are owned by the village and seeing it in it’s spring glory reminds us what a wonderful resource we have there – if you haven’t been down there yet this spring make sure you put it on your list of things to do!

And while on the subject of things to do, the Community Council again has a busy month ahead.

We start with our Country & Western evening on Saturday 6th May when the ever popular Julie Dawn returns to Cockfield. Tickets, as always, will be £6, on the door, and there will be a licensed bar and barbecue. Doors open at 7.30 pm

Then, on Friday 19th May Cockfield Community Cinema is presenting our May film, A Street Cat Named Bob. The show starts at 7.30 pm, with doors open at 7 pm. Admission (on the door) is £4.50 for adults and £3 for under 17s – refreshments will be available. Please note the new date for this show which has been moved from its normal ‘last Friday of the month’ slot to make way for the Cockfield Art Show which takes place on 27th/28th and 29th May in the Village Hall. At the time of writing we have over 50 artists lined up to display their work and we’re aiming to put on an even better show than last year. Admission to the show will be free and, as always, refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.

Looking beyond May, our June Country & Western evening, on Saturday 6th June, features Country Law.

There are no Country & Western evenings in July and August, and we will resume on Saturday 2nd September with Kenny Lee & Hustler

We will be holding a Grand Car Boot Sale on Great Green on Sunday 2nd July. This will run from 11.00 am to 2.30 pm and there will be no admission charge – sales pitches will be £5.00 per car, to be paid on the day (no pre-booking required). The Community Council will run a bric-à-brac stall for which all contributions will be welcome. Watch this space for more info…………

The Village Show at Clipt Bushes will be on Sunday 10th September with a 50s/60s/70s dance featuring Kevin Barry on Saturday 23rd September and a Quiz Night on Saturday 18th November

Carols on the Green is provisionally booked for 19th December

Details of all these events will appear in Green Links, the Village website, www.Cockfield.org.uk and will be circulated through our Community Council e-mail distribution list. If you wish to be included on the list, which is an excellent source of information about local events, please apply through the website or by e-mail to rod.portwood@btinternet.com
