• Secure your tablet of smartphone with a screen lock. Although you’ll need a PIN or pattern to unlock it, your device will have an extra layer of security
• If you receive a suspicious email from a friend containing a link, do not click on it without checking with your friend first

The Police are reminding residents to be alert for telephone scams. Recently a caller has claimed to be from the tax office, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) falsely warning of arrest warrants, outstanding debts or unpaid taxes. Fraudsters like this typically contact the elderly and vulnerable. Other common calls are from scammers claiming to be from Microsoft or BT saying there is an issue with your computer and asking you to go to download some protection software, which would give the fraudster access to data on your computer. Solution – just hang up.

Remember ‘crime cannot flourish in a community that cares’, so be on the alert and be watchful in looking after yourself and your neighbours.
