The Trustees are getting into the Swing of the new year’s programme and you can get into the Swing to by joining us on Saturday 13th April when we have a 1940’s/1950’s Swing Dance Party in the Village Hall with Music from Neil and Martine of A2 Jive. If you are not sure of how to do the swinging bits and you would like to learn they are offering a free dance class at 8pm for the first half hour to get you in the swing. There will be a licensed bar and tea and cake. Tickets are £7.50 each and are available from the Post Office or from Janne on 01284 828264.
This will be followed by the Duck Race at Earls Meadow on Easter Saturday 20th April. The Duck Race is always a popular event, just wander down to Earls Meadow for 11am, ducks are £1 each and all ducks are provided, There will be chocolate eggs as prizes and it is always good fun. Parking on the Concrete Pad by the War Memorial or at the Village Hall.
The Art Show in the Village Hall is back over the Bank Holiday weekend 25/26/27th May – definitely a save the date event , artists are signing up on a daily basis , this is the fifth year and is becoming a staple in the Show circuit.
The Sale Trail is now confirmed on the 23rd June – there will be the traditional map noting those houses selling items but we will also have space available at the Village Hall for tables and, depending on demand, we will use Great Green too, a booking form is on page 37. If you don’t want to sell yourself the Community Council will be having a stall so keep items to one side for them more details as where these can be dropped off will be available next month.
The Community Council is 50 this year and as part of the Village Show on September 8th we are planning a look back over the past 50 years, anyone with any memorabilia of the past 50 years, old photos etc, pop them to one side we will be in contact.
The Show itself will be concentrating on the Flower, Fruit, Produce and Craft side of things and will be in the Village Hall. As the days get longer and work starts in the garden please think about Sowing for the Show!
We mustn’t forget about the Monthly Country and Western Dances, Kenny Lee Went down a storm on the 2nd March and we are in for
another good night on April 6th when Kevin Barry is back playing a range of music, doors open at 7pm and tickets are £6.00 on the door, there is also a bar and BBQ, if you haven’t been before Kevin is a good one to start with, these are excellent evenings.
And now for the biggie! Saturday 16th November an evening with the Bee Gees. The tribute band – Bee Gees Disco Night Fever Band is booked and will be a rocking evening so keep the date free.
The year will close with Carols on the Green on December 17th.
I expect there will be a couple of other events popped in along the way but all these coupled with the monthly Country and Western Dances and Cinema we have a full programme to keep us busy and hopefully the Village engaged.
Cockfield Community Cinema on the fourth Friday of the month – in April on the 26th we will be showing A Star is Born which looks like an excellent film. The Cinema is gaining in popularity and we regularly get 60+ people watching which makes for a good atmosphere .
Please remember we are now offering Cinema Vouchers, and very smart they are too, prices are in multiples of film entries (£4.50 each) and you can buy for as many performances as you like. Waste paper collection
The next waste paper collection will be on Sundays March 24th and April 28th As usual, collections will start at 9.00 am. Please leave your papers out for the collectors. If you should find you have a lot of paper and card building up you don’t have to wait for the last Sunday in the month to off load it, paper and cardboard can always be dropped off at the Dutch Barn at Cockfield Hall.
