Cockfield Parish Council has secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
Sport England today revealed that more than 1,300 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery Funding through Inspired Facilities, part of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.
Cockfield Parish Council will receive £49,764 of National Lottery funding to refurbish their Sports Pavilion. The community (Cockfield and surrounding area) asked for the facilities to be improved to ensure their continued participation in sport but crucially there has been a request from people not currently taking part in sport for a range of sports to be offered locally, the pavilion will become the base for these activities.
To celebrate the award local people are being invited to a free Sport Taster Session at the Pavilion, Great Green Cockfield IP30 0HK on Thursday 15th August 2013 from 6-7 pm where they will be able to join in a training session with some of the clubs currently using the facility and will also be able to try out some of the activities which could be on offer once the improvements are made, netball, static cycles, rounders, mountain biking and keep fit. Please contact Janne Cutting-Keyton Project Coordinator 01284 828264 for more details.
Sport England’s chair, Nick Bitel, said, ‘A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy for Suffolk. With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports facilities in Suffolk which play such a vital role in grassroots sport.’
Parish Council Chairman, Derek Southgate, said, ‘Having won Suffolk Village of the Year 2012, this is further fantastic news that extensive efforts have secured the village this substantial award. Our locality will benefit and be part of the Olympic legacy. We are now looking forward to the challenge of delivering the improved facilities to aid greater sport participation and wider community use.
Project Coordinator Janne Cutting-Keyton added, ‘This is a wonderful opportunity to improve sporting provision for the village and surrounding area. We hope lots of people will come to our Free Sports Taster Session on the 15th August to help celebrate the award. Our Parish and Community Councils worked closely with Sport Suffolk to formulate the application and we are delighted ours was one of the successful bids.’
Local MP, Tim Yeo, said, “I am very pleased to learn that Sport England has awarded Cockfield an Inspired Facilities Grant to refurbish the Sports Pavilion. Improved facilities will be welcomed by the local football teams who currently use the Sports Pavilion but importantly will also encourage more residents and people from the surrounding area to participate in a wider range of sports. I congratulate everyone who made the bid a success.”
Cockfield Parish Council is one of well over 300 projects across England receiving lottery investment from the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities fund and one of more than 1,300 to benefit overall. Many more communities are now set to benefit from the hugely popular fund, after Sport England today announced that it was extending Inspired Facilities until 2017, with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest.
