Cockfield Community Council News
Its November and that means that our Annual General Meeting is upon us. This year the meeting will take place on Friday 1st December in the Village Hall, starting at 7.30 pm. It is an important event for the Community Council as this is the meeting where we receive reports of our achievements through the year from our retiring Officers and we elect our 16 Trustees to serve for the coming year. From amongst the Trustees we elect our Honorary Officers – Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. This year three of our Trustees, among them our current Treasurer, have indicated that, having moved away from the village, they will be standing down, so we need new faces to replace them. The meeting is open to all residents of the village and anyone who wishes to be nominated as a Trustee should make him or herself known to our Secretary, Janne Cutting-Keyton, at least one week prior to the meeting.
The Community Council is an important part of our village life so please come along to the AGM and show your support and, if you feel you can contribute, stand as a Trustee
But, before that we have three events in November…….
Country & Western Evening
On Saturday 4th November we welcome the return of Declan Gaynor. If you like your C & W with an Irish flavour then Declan is sure to please you. He perfoms all over the country and has delighted the audiences on his previous visits to Cockfield. Tickets will be at the usual price of £6 on the door and there will, of course, be a bar and barbecue.
On Saturday 2nd December our band will be Durango
Quiz Night
Our Quiz Night will be on Saturday 18th November in the Village Hall. The format will consist of teams of 6 people who may come to the event already teamed up, or those not already part of a team will be teamed up on the night. Tickets will be £5 per person on the door and this will include a cheese supper. Doors will open at 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start and there will be a licensed bar.
Cockfield Community Cinema
On Friday 24th November we will be showing Viceroy’s House, the story of Lord Mountbatten and the end of the Empire in India. Please visit the Cockfield Cinema webpage for full details.
Carols on the Green is provisionally booked for 19th December
We have started work on next year’s events and are pleased to announce that comedian and ventriloquist, Richard Whymark will be back (with a Fish’n’Chip supper) on 21st April and we will welcome a well established ABBA tribute act on 17th November. All our usual events will also be in the programme, so watch this space for more information.
Details of all our events will appear in Green Links, the Village website, www.Cockfield.org.uk and will be circulated through our Community Council e-mail distribution list. If you wish to be included on the list, which is an excellent source of information about local events, please apply through the website or by e-mail to rod.portwood@btinternet.com
Waste paper collection
The next waste paper collections will be on Sunday 29th October and Sunday 26th November. As usual, collections will start at 9.00 am. These collections are an important source of funds for the Community Council so please leave your papers out for the collectors.
