Community Council News – September 19
Sunday 8 September saw another splendid Cockfield Produce, Flower and Craft Show. Considerable thanks go to all those who participated and congratulations to the winners of the many and various Categories.
Whilst the focus of the Show was of course on the flowers, produce and craft, this year also marks the 50th Centenary of the Community Council. It was therefore a pleasure for the Trustees of the Council to put together a display of memorabilia and photos from Cockfield throughout the past 50 years. Many positive comments were received, it bringing many memories for so many attendees of the Show.
Thank you to everyone who contributed.
The October Country and Western Dance will be on Saturday 5 Oct with Declon Gaynor, commencing 8pm. Tickets are on the door and are £6.00 each. The doors open at 7pm, the bar will open at 7.45pm and there will as ever be a BBQ.
Sadly all good things come to an end eventually. At the dance held on 7 September, it was announced that after 48 years, the dances would be ending with that planned for 7 December.
In years gone by, the Old Village Hall would be sold out, with people being turned away, sadly those days are long since gone.
We would like to thank everyone who supported us over the years particularly those who have attended over long periods of time. We do however intend going out with three great evenings on 5 Oct, 2 Nov and 7 Dec. There will also be a special event on 4 Apr when all monies raised will go to Charity.
Cockfield Community Cinema will be showing Rocketman at the Village Hall on Friday 25 October, 7.00pm for 7.30pm.
Starring Taran Egerton and Jamie Bell (remember him? – Billy Elliott!), Rocketman is a biographical musical on the life of Elton John. Reviews suggest the `colours are striking, the settings are striking and the energy is irresistible!’
Tickets are £4.50 on the door and along with the bar there are teas and coffees as well as ice-creams and sweets.
On Friday 22 November the Cinema will be showing Yesterday. Directed by Danny Boyle expect to hear many tracks from the Beatles in this romantic comedy. Further details in next month’s Green Links.
Tickets are now on sale for the major event in the Autumn, an Evening with the Bee Gees Tribute Group on Saturday 16th November. This is likely to be a lively and popular evening! Tickets are available from Cockfield Post Office or please contact community.council@cockfield.org.uk. Buy a ticket soon or risk missing out (last year’s ABBA event was sold out and there were many disappointed people.)
A light supper will be included.
Waste Paper Collections continue on the last Sunday of the month, the next waste paper collection being on Sunday 27th October as usual, collections will start at 9.00 am. Please leave your papers out for the collectors in a prominent position. Proceeds from the collections go towards the running costs of the pavilion and are therefore very valuable to the Village.
The Community Council AGM will take place on Fri 29 November. The Community Council relies on volunteers and we are always looking for people to join the Trustees and get involved in organising events. There are only 6 meetings every year, and we are a very welcoming group. Do please speak with any of the Trustees (details on the Village website) if you are interested in joining.
The year ends with Carols on the Green on 17 December.
Planning for 2020 remains at its early stages with the Trustees having held initial discussions on half a dozen possible events. However, following on from the very successful Swing Dance held earlier this year, it is confirmed that another Swing Dance will definitely take place in Mar 20. Details nearer the time.
